汉语中有“一语双关”，英语中也有“一词多义”，我们在日常交谈中一不留神就会被坑的很惨，小小单词、短语，语境的一点点改变，意思就会大大的不同啊！

1. “at length”在句子中的意思是“最终”，作为这个意思时，它的语义相当于“at last”，但是更加文雅，多见www.58yuanyou.com于文学表达。
2. 另外，“at length”还有一个比较常用的意思是“长久地，详尽地”，例如：
Tom went on at great length about his various achievements.
汤姆滔滔不绝地讲起他取得的各种成就。

2. 英语里面有个很有力量的谚语，叫作“Actions speak louder than words.”，意思是“行动胜于空谈”。当我们满怀憧憬和计划时，实实在在的行动才是通往理想最近的道路。

这两种口音不难区分。
1. “discriminate between”在句子中的意思是“区分”的意思。
2. “discriminate”还有另外一个常用的搭配“discriminate against”，意思是“歧视”，例如：
It is illegal to discriminate against minorities and women.
歧视少数群体和女性是违法的。
※ The company is on the threshold of transition.

1. “on the threshold of”在句子中的意思是“即将经历”，“threshold”的意思是“门槛，门口”，“在……门槛上”顾名思义就是“在……开始，即将面临” 的意思，所指的事情往往是令人激动的或是新鲜的经历。
2. “threshold”也有“阈值，起点”的意思，常用“a high/low threshold”的表达，例如：
The little kids have a high boredom threshold and are always enjoying playing together.
小孩子不容易产生厌倦，总是高高兴兴地一起玩耍。
