本篇文章使用了一般过去时态，讲述了过去发生的一个小故事，下面是文中常用的搭配。
1、from time to time的意思是“偶尔”，相当于英语中的sometimes，如：
He wrote to me from time to time. 他偶尔给我写信。
2、文中出现了full的常用搭配be full of，意思是“充满、装满”，如：
The car was full of students. 这辆车子载满了学生。
full作形容词，词义丰富，如：

spend的主语必须是人，常用于以下结构：
(1) spend time/money on stwww.58yuanyou.comh意思是“在…上花费时间（金钱）”，如：
I spent two hours on this English problem. 这道英语题花了我两个小时。
(2) spend time/money (in) doing sth意思是“花费时间（金钱）做某事”，如：
They spent two years (in) building this bridge. 造这座桥花了他们两年时间。
(3) spend money for sth意思是“花钱买…”如：
His money was spent for fruits. 他的钱用来买水果了。
本文中使用的就是第一种结构，即spend…on 。

charge作动词，常与介词for连用，就是本课中的用法，表示“向（人）索取…费用”，如：They charged me five dollars for a cup of coffee. 他们一杯咖啡向我要5美元。
除了上面的用法，它还可以表示很多意思，如：
表示“装、载”，如：The gun charged with a bullet. 枪里装了一颗子弹。
表示“控诉”，如：The driver was charged with speeding. 驾驶员被控超速。
表示“攻击、突击”，如：The soldiers charged the enemy. 士兵们攻击敌人。
表示“命令、指示”，如：Mary’s mother charged her to take good care of the baby. 玛丽的母亲叫她好好照顾婴孩。
charge除了可以作动词，还可以作名词，如：
表示“照顾、委托”，如：Doctors have charge of sick people. 医生照顾病人。
表示“控诉”，如：They made a charge against her. 他们控告他。
